Release from Atlanta United FC:

Atlanta United announced it has re-signed free agent midfielder Jeff Larentowicz. A 13-year MLS veteran, Larentowicz made 33 appearances and 30 starts for Atlanta in 2017 where he was a regular in Tata Martino’s squad at defensive midfielder or center back.

“Jeff played an important role for our team last season and we’re pleased to have re-signed him,” said Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra. “Since joining the club, he has been a consummate professional and his experience and leadership is invaluable for our younger players.”

The 34-year-old has scored 39 goals and added 20 assists in his MLS career. He made his 338th career MLS start and 357th MLS appearance against Toronto on Oct. 22, both of which place him at No. 9 in MLS history among field players.

The United also acquired José Hernández from Caracas FC of the Venezuelan Primera Division as a Discovery Signing. The 20-year-old left back will officially join Atlanta pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.

“We identified José as one of the young talented defenders in South America and we’re thrilled that he’s committed to continuing his development with our club,” Bocanegra said. “In addition to his experience in first-team matches at Caracas, he’s played in big matches internationally, including this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup final against England. He’s an aggressive 1v1 defender and has the ability to get involved in the attack.”

The United also acquired Darlington Nabge and Gbenga Arokoyo from Portland Timbers in exchange for $650,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2018, $100,000 in GAM in 2019, $300,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and a 2018 international roster spot.
